Design Trend Spotlight: Maximalism
Design Trend Spotlight: Maximalism
People are moving away from minimalist, neutral spaces and embracing maximalism—a design trend that celebrates color and abundance. This year, bold patterns, vibrant colors, and rich textures are taking center stage, creating interiors full of character. To me, maximalism is about curation and layers with a whimsical and intentional approach that lets your individuality shine through. It allows you to showcase who you are while maintaining functionality and flow, resulting in a very unique design for any space.

Our own take on maximalism in this guest bedroom weaves together antique Syrian nightstands inlaid with mother of pearl, a custom headboard upholstered in lavender linen, small scale patterned wallpaper and large scale patterned drapery. The mixture of shapes, tones, and patterns is eclectic without being over-powering, allowing this bedroom to be richly layered yet still feel serene and intentional.

Another maximalist moment we designed for the Guest Suites at Jordan Vineyard & Winery is this restroom, full of personality and drama. The pastoral wallpaper sets the tone, with its lush botanicals adding depth and artistry to the space. Blue herringbone tiled floors are anchored by lengths of bold black trim, all crowned by a freestanding black tub with metallic interior.

I love this vibrant room inspired by Zelda Fitzgerald. The Morris & Co wallpaper and fun drapery, with the colorful gallery wall, and candy-striped upholstered chair work together to create a bold yet cohesive space full of visual interest and fun!

These designers created this playful bedroom together for their daughter. The ceiling is adorned with hand-painted decorative elements by a muralist, inspired by their daughter’s sketches. Layers of varying textiles, textures, and colors intermingle to create a space that is full of charm and warmth.

This apartment features a striking marble marquetry floor, a 19th-century French sofa upholstered in citrus colored silk, turquoise walls, and a sunburst ceiling fixture, all anchored by the homeowner’s extensive art collection. This vibrant design is a beautiful example of how a space can be tailored to reflect and elevate its inhabitant’s unique taste and style.
